Crossroads II

Discipleship Training Program (21st June, 2013 – 29th June, 2013)

“Amazement seized all of them, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, “We have seen strange things today.”” - Luke 5:26

The Discipleship Training Program (DTP) was blessing to both the participants and volunteers. The program was planned with an intention to enrich campus students of Bangalore to live a life driven in Christ.

Crossroads II had 12 participants from various colleges across Bangalore. Though the program was intended for students who had some basic formation, the participants who attended the program were mainly new to Christ. This though became a challenge to the team, was not a hindrance in giving Christ. The program team re-worked on the entire program and made it applicable to the crowd. Extra effort was taken to inform the resource about the participants and to prepare them to give their best to them.

The retreat happened on the first three days of DTP (22 July to 24 July). It was planned and handled by Alex Njavallil and the Bread of Life group. The key speakers during the retreat were Cherian Ramapuram, Sunsun Jose, Rinu Thomas, Liza, Zacharias Njavallil, Jude Francis, Mathew, Clifford Njavallil, Jose Antony and Sharu. Fr. Roy helped the participants and volunteers by hearing their confessions and supporting them with all the spiritual guidance that they required during the retreat. The retreat ended with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Rinu and Liza (from the retreat team) led the anointing adoration and were supported by three sisters from the St. Theresa’s Novitiate convent and Fr. Roy. We were blessed with the Presence of Alex Kuruvilla throughout the retreat and the Outreach, specially in guiding the Volunteers, to be stronger in Witnessing the Love that we have received, from Jesus Christ – our Lord and Saviour!

After the retreat there was a training program for the participants, to equip them to live a Christ centred life and to instil in them a desire to share Christ.

The training program kick started with an outreach to Swanthana; an institute run by Daughters of St. Camillus, which houses children with special needs – arising out of physical conditions that include being mentally and physically challenged. To equip them to live a true Christian life, we had sessions on Being Made in the Image and Likeness of God and Discipleship. This was facilitated by C.C. Joseph. These sessions were highly interactive with a lot of question and answer sessions in between. On the last day of the training, Jacob Jose handled the concept of living by faith, gifts and talents and Theology of the Body (relationships and how to keep our body holy).

The final day of the program was on introducing Jesus Youth – a missionary movement to the participants. Kevin from the National Campus Ministry spoke to the participants about JY and its six pillars. Sunitha from the Karnataka Campus Ministry spoke about the importance of prayer meetings and fellowship and introduced the various prayer meetings in Bangalore. Fr. Vinoy, pastor of the Bangalore JY Campus Ministry celebrated the final mass and commissioned the volunteers and participants.

The most anticipated (by participants and volunteers) part of the program would be the adoration that happened every day. Zacharias Njavallil, Shibu Mammen, Rinu and Liza, Alex, Pascal, Crispin and Sunsun led the adoration and made it a cherished moment for everyone present. Another much awaited event during DTP was celebrating the Holy Eucharist. Fr. Roy, Fr. John Chan, Fr. T.C. George and Fr. Vinoy celebrated Holy Mass for the participants. During the training, we had elders come and help the participants and volunteers in their journey with Christ. Jessy (from the retreat team), Jacob Jose and Sunsun were the elders who made themselves available, realizing the need of the people gathered for DTP. In the words of a participant who went for Personal Sharing with an Elder, “I feel light after Sharing with the Elder. I feel so light for having shared everything that I could fly. Thanks for arranging this Personal Sharing”.

Another main highlight of the program was the 24-hour intercession that happened at the venue. Thanks to the program intercession team who took various initiatives to have constant intercession. The intercession team took an initiative to keep a prayer request box in the chapel where both participants and volunteers dropped in their prayer requests. The sister’s of the convent also used this opportunity to share their prayer requests and the people sitting for intercession read every request and interceded for it. A few people even came forward and shared that their request had been answered. One participant had put in a request to pass her engineering exams. She got her results during the DTP and she shared that she had passed with very high marks.

The entire DTP was time for miracles and blessings for all the people who were attending the program as participants and volunteers. To list a few, there were a few volunteers who were searching for new jobs and during the program they received calls from various companies and one person even got the offer letter from the dream company. There was a participant who had been a drug addict for past three years. The participant was off drugs during the entire program and after the program too. There were a few volunteers who were experiencing difficulties at workplace. During the program the difficulties were sorted out after a very long time.

Indeed the entire DTP was a blessed experience to one and all present at the venue. This wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for the constant support of the Bangalore Service team, under the guidance of John Joseph and Shibu Mammen; and the support of the Karnataka Campus team, through the constant support from Jims and Sunitha. I would also like to thank Rajesh Raphail who helped us find priests to celebrate mass for everyone present at the venue and who made time to interact with the participants and share their experience with one and all present. Volunteers, the backbone of DTP – without them we wouldn’t have been able to conduct the program. I want to specially thank the volunteers who made it a point to come for intercession at night, after finishing a hectic day at work. They would intercede in the night and go back to work the next morning. Truly it was a blessed program where everything was controlled and executed by God. With the help of the Holy Spirit we were able to re-work on the entire program and tailor make it to meet the requirements. The Holy Spirit was a constant source of inspiration, support and guidance to all the volunteers who worked to make this program a grand success. I would take this opportunity to thank God for blessing us abundantly, all through the program.

CROSSROADS - DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

Cross-roads DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM – 2013
24th May – 1st June, 2013

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” – Matthew 5:16 Crossroads, the DTP for the campus students was a blessing beyond measure. It all started off with the intention of building leaders for Christ in the campus and be genuine witnesses for Him. And it turned out to be a lot above our imagination.

Crossroads had 15 participants from across 4 colleges from Bangalore. After a lot of struggle in getting venue for Crossroads, we were able to get St. Theresa’s Novitiate in Whitefield. With the sisters being there for the constant help, we had a very good environment for the DTP!

The first three days (25 th – 27 th May) the DTPians attended a silent growth retreat which was handled by Alex Njavallil with the help of Cherian Ramapuram, Sunsun Jose, Rinu Thomas, Liza, Zacharias Njavallil, Jude Francis and Mathew being the key resources. Fr. Roy and Fr. Joy were present during the retreat to help us with confessions and Holy Mass and the Final Anointing Prayer.

The retreat was backed up with a 4-day training which highlighted true Christian relationship and fellowship (which dealt with the understanding of Me and God, Me and the world and failures in relationships) the call for evangelization, the know-how of being evangelists and the Church’s opinion on new evangelization. This was a two- day ordeal which was handled by Dony Peter. It was a very Question- answer based session which led to a lot of interaction and opening up from the participants. There were two Evangelization outreaches to Forum value mall and Phoenix mall respectively.

The third day was completely mission oriented. We headed out to Svanthana, run by Daughters of St. Camillus which houses children with special needs, arising out of physical conditions that include being mentally and physically challenged. A session by the Superior of the Novitiate on the need for having a personal mission helped the DTPians to have a clear idea of mission and the dire need of missionaries for the Mother Church. There was a workshop on music ministry and an orientation on adoration during the day. Jacob Jose handled the concept of living by faith, gifts and talents and Theology of the Body the succeeding day.

The final day concentrated campus ministry and an interaction with Jose Sebastian gave clear ideas our responsibilities and roles we are called to play enlightened the new disciples of Christ. An open discussion with the key leaders of the region and the national campus team and a couple of sessions on the dream of the ministry by John Joseph and Shastha on how we can be a part of it lead to finding avenues where we could contribute in building His Kingdom.

All of this wouldn’t have happened without the 24-hr intercession we had during the entire DTP. For most of us volunteers, it was getting out of our comfort zones and working for the Lord. Rather than trusting in our capabilities, it was being prudent to the call of the Holy Spirit and being available for the Lord. We could see the Lord working through us and sharing His Love in the process and making us believe through all the trials and troubles that ‘He is always in Control.’

God Bless!!

BLOSSOM - Outreach Child Support one day program

Dear All,

Greetings from Outreach-Child Support (OCS)!!

We thought of sharing our beautiful experience on Blossom, a one day program for all the children who are being supported from Bangalore through OCS. The very vision of OCS is not just to provide financial help to children, but also to enable their holistic development- one such platform is Blossom.

We thank our Almighty Father, for His Blessings, which helped us organize the entire program, (which was once our distant dream).

The program was held on the 28th of April, 2013 in the Philosophy block of Dharmaram. It was organized in five streams - Parents, 8th to 12th students, 4th to 7th students, LKG to 3rdstudents and sponsors. There were about 150 people in total for the program. Thanks to the never ending efforts of Cecil for coordinating the entire mobilization, and ensuring that all of them reached on time by arranging transportation, which was a humongous task. Once they reached the venue, registrations were done-where we even got their information rectified.

The program was organized in Kannada, for which we had speakers from across Karnataka (Aldrin, Prince, Manjula) who shared their beautiful insights to all the participants and volunteers. Parents were so happy to have attended such a program as it was an eye opener to them in many areas (Parenting, addiction, expressing love to their children etc). And they were glad that they heard such beautiful talks, which they told us, was encouraging them to educate others in their neighborhood as well. All the more, parents were so much moved and were thankful to all the OCS volunteers for having organized such a beautiful program for them and their children.

Some parents thought it was a program for kids and their role would be nothing much otherwise from accompanying their children, towards the end they realized it was organized mainly for them as they were the people who need to support and motivate their children in becoming what they want to be. We also set apart some time for parents to share their concerns, regarding the support they were getting.

All the children enjoyed the program as it was filled with thoughtful activities, fun filled games and insightful sessions. The high school children were given talks about what is their purpose in life, and what is their call as a student and as a responsible child. They were also guided how they can achieve their dreams, which they shared. Finally a session on the importance of education and how to study in the situation they are in (bloom where they are planted) along with some exam tips.

Children were so inspired that towards the end of the program, some of them promised that once they grow up, they will make sure to support at least 4 children.

The upper primary kids were given important talks on how and what to dream, and how to achieve them along with the importance of education. Volunteers organized many games along with music so that children were always energetic and cheerful. A beautiful session on how to be a good child at home and school was also given to them.

The younger kids up to class 3 were engaged throughout the program by energetic volunteers with a lot of games, moral stories, action songs, etc.

The sponsors and the well-wishers of OCS had a gathering during the latter half of the day, during which they were discussing- the need for volunteers, OCS activities till date, some policy changes, how to fulfill the vision of OCS, etc. Thanks to the Director-OCS, Subin Jacob for facilitating the same.

Thanks to Shinto and his team for arranging the food, tea and welcome drinks; also for ensuring everything was done before time. Thanks to Anand and team for handling the logistic needs of the program making sure every detail was taken care. Music team was coordinated by Joyal and Jomichan. Different sessions were also handled by Basilica, Jude, Blessy and Shawn. Finance was coordinated well within our budget by Ashish. Excellent planning and coordination of the program were done by Sibiya, Ashok and Mejo (OCS coordinator, Karnataka). And we express our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, who helped us organize the first ever OCS one day program in Bangalore.

Please find few snaps attached.

Regards,
Outreach Child Support Team

Teen’s Summer Camp 2013

Teen’s Summer Camp

The Teen’s Ministry, one of the most Vibrant ministries of Jesus Youth, always aims at the all-around development of Teenage students through various initiatives and sustained formation programs. Teen’s ministry has been growing in Bangalore. With a vision “To mould a generation of spiritually dynamic, socially responsible and intellectually alert teenagers for Christ”, this ministry in Bangalore has been providing a platform for teenager’s to exhibit their vibrancy in prayer. The recently concluded 6 Day Summer Campfor Teen’s was demonstrating this closeness to the Vision.

On 5th Day,The kids experienced a wonderful time with their little bros and sisters at Swanthana, Carmelaram. They were with the differently abled children for 2 hrs. The Teen’s sang for them, prayed, gave them food. It was beautiful to see the love and care that these Teen’s extended to those kids. Xavier Manvath had taken a session for the parents. We had the concluding holy mass at 3:30 pm celebrated by Fr. Joy Inchody. The kids were blessed at the end of the mass.

Though these kids came in from various parts of Bangalore, most of them, seeing each other for the 1st time, but at the end of the program, they were all one Family. They eate, sang , played , danced and enjoyed together in the 45 acre sprawling campus of Claret Nivas. At the end, many of these kids came back and asked if they could stay in that place for few more time J

Karnataka Faith Conference 2013

Dear All,

Prayer filled greetings from Jesus Youth Karnataka!

At the onset we wish you God’s choicest blessings upon you and your family.

For us Jesus Youth, the Jubilee was a time of special grace for everyone in the movement, during the course of which there were numerous occasions to reflect on the call and mission of being a Jesus Youth. The declaration of the Year of Faith has been most eagerly welcomed in the Jesus Youth movement as a God-given opportunity for ‘fostering the graces received during the Jubilee’.

In this context, Jesus Youth is initiating a series of regional conferences titled “Faith Conference 2013” across the country, with the central theme “Faith’. The conference in the region of Karnataka will be held from the 25th (8:30am) to 27th of January2013 (5:00pm) at the Apostolic Carmel Generalate (behind Sagar Hospital on Banerghata Road), Bangalore. This 3 day Conference will be based on the theme "Know the Faith", "Live the Faith" and "Share the Faith".

Accompanying youth on their journey of faith has been the favored mission of the Jesus Youth movement and this conference would enable the participants to know more and re-discover their Faith. Around 800 to 1000 Jesus Youth from across Karnataka are expected to participate in this conference.

It is with much thirst and dreams for the Lord that we host this program in Bangalore. The program is organized in three streams – for youth in Englishfor youth in Kannada and for families. We have even organized a Kids Care centre to take care of the children during the Conference days.

With great happiness, we invite you all to come and be a part of this Conference and share with us the blessings from above.

Marian Eve

Dear friends,

Want to thank you all for your prayers and support for the Marian Eve on the 27th. The program went really well by the Lord's grace. It was held in Maria Bhavan (Montfort Fathers) near RRC.

We had a crowd of around 50-60 people, if I am not wrong with mostly families and a lot of kids :-). We were truly blessed to have Father Souri Raj (OSM) with us. He spoke beautifully about Mother Mary and though we just had one hour to listen to his words, we truly wished that we could hear him even more. He had a lot to speak about our Dear Mother. It was his second experience with Jesus Youth, the first being last month in Chennai. He is a good resource to call for any program.

The Rosary procession was beautiful, especially to see the little children proudly holding their candles and praying. Though everything was planned within a short span of time, things turned out well at the end.

There were a lot of kids running around and it was a joy watching them enjoy the refreshments and everyone had a good time of interaction. There were a lot of Marian books and CDs displayed for sale by our Montfort fathers and there were really happy to see us. Fr.Joseph appreciated all our efforts and assured his prayers for our movement.

A few photos are attached.

Our love for Mother Mary has greatly deepened through this program. Thank you dear Mother, for watching over us and praying for us.

Let us continue to pray for our Jesus Youth family and ask for Her special intercession.

Be with us Mary along the way
Guide every step we take
Lead us to Jesus your Loving Son
Come with us Mary, come.

With prayers,
Anne Mary.

Family Gathering @ Snehadan

Family is one of the greatest gifts from God. We in the JY Family ministry, understanding this truth, spent some part of our last Sunday thanking and praising the Lord for this gift in our lives. There were around 30 families in this event. The program started out @ 2:30 PM with a blessed time of Praise and Worship led by Shine and team. After this we had an Ice breaking game amongst the participants. Everyone enjoyed this game as Ann Mary introduced lots of Bible Characters through this game.

This was followed by a sharing by Jose Thomas about the importance of couples group in the context of the Church in Bangalore. This very informative session was followed by an equally interesting panel discussion. The panel included Jose Antony and Sharu, Mathew Joseph, Sanjay Joseph and Sindhu Sanjai and they answered various questions on Family life, Pro Life, Challenges in Family & Professional life, Raising kids etc. This was followed by sharing of various ministry leaders about happenings in different ministries and the various options for families to support them. After this there was a break for tea.

Post-tea there was adoration lead by Jacob Jose, which was followed by Holy Mass celebrated by Fr Xavier Manavath. During the homily, father shared about the importance of lay groups in the Church. It helped the participants understand the greater role they could play in the Church. This was followed by dinner. Apart from enjoying the great food it was time for making new friends among the participants.

And last but not the least, the team of Volunteers who were there to look after our kids. The kids had a wonderful time with them. A BIG THANKS to the entire team ….

Much Love,
For JY Family Ministry

Jesus & Me - Campus Leadership Training Program

Bangalore Campus Ministry was blessed to begin the JESUS & ME Leadership Training Program on the Day of Pentecost, 27th May 2012 in Holy Trinity Ashram. Most of the participants attended the Recommitment Day at DVK and were ready for what lay ahead. The training program saw the participation of a vibrant group of 42 youngsters from various colleges of the city, belonging to an age group of 16 to 22. What's amazing is how a group of complete strangers bonded together into one family.

The LTP was structured to nurture the person's relationship with God, with others and with oneself. Every day began with a time of Personal prayer and Praise and Worship. Group work, Personal projects and Farmville were everyday affairs. This was initially accompanied with groans of "Oh no!" or "Not Again!", but eventually helped them be more responsible and disciplined.

Fr. Bitaju, Fr. Vinoy, Alex Njavally, C C Joseph, Dony Peter, Jose Sebastian, Jacob Jose and Prajwal Pinto were the main resources and they covered a wide range of topics like Holy Spirit, Relationship, The Holy Bible, Evangelization etc. What helped the participants the most was the Q&A sessions which addressed a lot of issues and doubts that they had.

The highlight of this training program was the opportunity to share Jesus in public places like Malls and Zoo. They also shared their personal testimonies with each other and to the outside world. The entire leadership program centred on ‘Discipleship’ and ‘Evangelization’ and was dealt very practically.

The LTP not only equipped them with spiritual knowledge but also with basic disciplines of life required for Discipleship. JESUS & ME LTP came to an end on the 3rd June 2012.

Love and Prayers,

Recommitment Day Gathering

Praise God!

Special thanks to all who joined us for the Re-commitment Day gathering and also to those who joined us in prayers. Our Re-commitment day gathering on May 27th was a big blessing. Nearly 450 people came together at DVK hall to pray for a greater anointing of the Holy Spirit. The gathering began with Rosary requesting the special intercession of Mother Mary. It was followed by JY prayer with a wonderful time of Praise and Worship and sharing of the Word during which Fr. Joy Inchody, Service Team pastor, shared about the significance of the day of Pentecost and the importance of the virtue of Charity by stating examples from the history of Church. The music ministry was superb throughout the program. Mathew Joseph, Service Team animator spoke to the crowd about being ‘Joyful Missionaries’ during his session. He shared his experience and also invited three others on stage to share about their ministry experiences and initiatives that they have taken in the last few years. This was followed by a blessed time of adoration. Few of our brothers and sisters sacrificed their time and effort and moreover the Re-commitment day gathering to prepare food for all of us. The lunch time was an opportunity for people to meet each other. Post lunch, Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Divia Paul, Youth Director of Archdiocese of Bangalore and concelebrated by Fr. Joy. During the homily Fr. Divia Paul stressed on the point - "we do many things and we are also gathered here not because we love our Father God, but because our Father God is loving each one of us". After the Holy Mass, the re-commitment prayer was led by Fr Joy. All ministry core teams were anointed and priests also prayed for special anointing by laying hands on all the participants. The youth prayer card and June 2012 edition of the Jesus Youth Bangalore newsletter were released during the gathering. Intercession before the Blessed Sacrament that started on the previous day morning continued till the end of the gathering. Overall it was a great day for the Jesus Youth in Bangalore. May the almighty God give us the strength and grace to continue in the anointing and be joyful missionaries.

Passionately Yours.......

The JY families facilitator group in Bangalore organized a 4 day retreat for families from 28th April to 1st May at Snehadaan, a facility owned by the Camillus fathers at Carmalaram. The retreat was lead by Elvis Kottooran and team. 30 families along with their children attended this growth retreat. Volunteers were present to take care of the children on all the 4 days.

The retreat stressed on the plan, God has for families and challenged individuals to review their submission to the will of God and the commitment to love their spouses as Christ loved. The families were blessed to have Elvis and Priya who have been a faithful witness, living a life of radical commitment to the invitation of Christ to deny oneself, take up the cross and follow Him.

The attendees returned home with a deeply convinced about the need to reform their lives and to renew their commitment to the vocation of married life. They also discussed the need for a parallel system to educate their children and have setup a team to explore the different possibilities.

Prayers,
Shibu (behalf of Jesus Youth Family Ministry, Bangalore)
